What’s up with Spiritweasel?

by Dan Filbin on April 8, 2010

You haven’t seen anything here lately because I’m getting more intense about my documentary, and it’s taking a lot of time.  I’m thinking future posts in SW might be more along the lines of video news updates- in particular, state-of-the-world weekly rundowns hosted by yours truly, and a good friend of mine who loves to go ballistic about current events.  I’m thinking I’ll call it ‘The Cranky Old Crank Presents:’, or something like that.

SW came into being mainly because I am in the process of writing a YA fantasy, and the prevailing wisdom says you’re supposed to have some great online presence if you hope to make it.  So that’s what I set out to do, while trying to keep in line with my initial drive for writing the book, which was to share far out, forward-thinking ideas from the paranormal to the musical, mathematical to to ecological.  But it turned out I was spending more time posting stuff rather than actually writing.  And now, with the documentary starting to take off, I find I’m not having much time to post stuff here.

So… I want to keep the Weasel alive, I just don’t know in what form.  I will probably be most active on my new blog, which you can become a fan of and follow here:  The Tightrope.

That’s about it for now.  Thanks for your company, and please come visit me in my other home and say hi.

Cheers!

-Dan

Daily High – The Chameleons’ Monkeyland

by Dan Filbin on March 29, 2010

These guys are responsible for inspiring a great many people performing today.  Visionary stuff.  This song sonically sums up the ephemeral and fantastic nature of things just beautifully.  Enjoy.

Longtime cannabis use associated with increased risk for schizophrenia?

March 29, 2010

“The nature of the relationship between psychosis and cannabis use is by no means simple.”
I almost think this study assumes that other states of consciousness, such as schizophrenia, are negative. I think if a regular toker could achieve a permanent, euphoric, radically altered state (without smoking)- like the kind many experience the first few [...]

Hutaree Christian militia group goes WMD, 5150

March 29, 2010

Xeni Jardin over at BoingBoing sez: “The website makes much reference to a “Christian Republic,” “end time battles,” and the voices of “Christian martyrs,” “Jesus warriors,” and talk of “Jesus and the ten virgins.” If you translated this website into Arabic, you’d have the sort of stuff that’s presented to America as the reason [...]

March 26, 2010

My friends Greg and Linda over at Artocratic.com have this kick-ass column called “that’s Awesome!”.  I figured it was probably stupid for the longest time, so I ignored it.  Lo and behold… it is awesome!  Dig it!

Nano-bacterial pyramid

March 26, 2010

I don’t know if this is amazing, but it’s kind of neat.  Gizmodo sez: “The feat was accomplished—and extensively documented in the video above—by researchers at the NanoRobotics Laboratory of the École Polytechnique de Montréal. The bacteria in question are known as magnetotactic bacteria, which have internal compasses that respond to the [...]

Daily High – Thai elephant orchestra

March 24, 2010

My girlfriend got a massage today (the same girlfriend who talks in her sleep), and she told me this music was playing. She thought it was some Tibetan meditation music or something. Perhaps the meditation of ‘never forget’. Dig these kooky elephants playing the marimba! Supposedly the Thais are doing this [...]
