You haven’t seen anything here lately because I’m getting more intense about my documentary, and it’s taking a lot of time.  I’m thinking future posts in SW might be more along the lines of video news updates- in particular, state-of-the-world weekly rundowns hosted by yours truly, and a good friend of mine who loves to go ballistic about current events.  I’m thinking I’ll call it ‘The Cranky Old Crank Presents:’, or something like that.

SW came into being mainly because I am in the process of writing a YA fantasy, and the prevailing wisdom says you’re supposed to have some great online presence if you hope to make it.  So that’s what I set out to do, while trying to keep in line with my initial drive for writing the book, which was to share far out, forward-thinking ideas from the paranormal to the musical, mathematical to to ecological.  But it turned out I was spending more time posting stuff rather than actually writing.  And now, with the documentary starting to take off, I find I’m not having much time to post stuff here.

So… I want to keep the Weasel alive, I just don’t know in what form.  I am still committed to posting the wacky stuff my girlfriend says in her sleep, so you can become a fan and check there for a biweekly dose of hilarity, but I will probably be most active on my new blog, which you can become a fan of and follow here:  Something Important Is Happening Here: A Documentary About Mental Health.

I almost think this study assumes that other states of consciousness, such as schizophrenia, are negative. I think if a regular toker could achieve a permanent, euphoric, radically altered state (without smoking)- like the kind many experience the first few times they get stoned- they would. I think that’s why many keep smoking day after day… chasing that feeling. That’s why I used to.

I kinda think it all boils down to cultural acceptance: would schizophrenics and other folks in psychotic states be often angry and paranoid if they lived in a culture that accepted their ways of being? Are longtime cannabis use and schizophrenia inherently negative things, or just socially conditioned that way?

I don’t know if this is amazing, but it’s kind of neat.  Gizmodo sez: “The feat was accomplished—and extensively documented in the video above—by researchers at the NanoRobotics Laboratory of the École Polytechnique de Montréal. The bacteria in question are known as magnetotactic bacteria, which have internal compasses that respond to the pull of a magnetic field. The research team used just such a magnetic field to bunch the bacteria together en masse and manipulate their movements to accomplish simple tasks.”
